Pilz: "Portrait" of an automation system that meets the requirements of Industry 4.0

With the continuous advancement of technology, our lives have undergone earth-shaking changes. Whether it is lifestyle habits or the way of dealing with problems, everything is moving towards a smarter direction.

In the era of Industry 4.0, what kind of automation system is needed?

To answer this question, we must first understand what Industry 4.0 is. In Germany, Pilz has been actively involved in the concept of Industry 4.0 since it was put forward. We are a member of the SmartFactoryKL demonstration and research platform and participated in the formulation of the industry 4.0 unified standard.

PSS4000 is a brand new automation system that fully meets the requirements of Industry 4.0 and faces the future. Today we will talk about some basic characteristics of this system, and by the way, complete the "portrait" of the automation system that meets the requirements of Industry 4.0.

Hardware configuration on demand, covering safety and automation functions

Why do you say that PSS4000 is a product that has the essence of Industry 4.0? The on-demand configuration of hardware should be regarded as one of its main features. PSS4000 provides a variety of head modules and numerous I/O modules for safety and automation (standard) functions. Users can choose flexibly in combination with application scenarios and individual control requirements.

Head modules are divided into major categories, which can be divided into head modules with processor functions and I/O head modules without processor functions. The I/O head module cannot be used alone, mainly for expansion when there are not enough I/O points. The head module with processor function is divided into PSSuniversal PLC and PSSuniversal multi.

As shown in the figure below: For applications with relatively few safety function requirements and simple logic control requirements, PSSu multi controller can be selected. On this basis, if there is a discrete control requirement, then it can be realized together with PSSuI/O.

If it is an application with a large number of discretes, a large number of safety functions, and complex logic operations, then you can choose PSSu PLC to build a control system with PSSu I/O.

PSS4000 system has a rich variety of IO electronic modules, including both safety-type electronic modules and standard-type electronic modules, which reflects the flexibility of the system to the greatest extent.

Distributed control structure is also one of the characteristics that the automation control system must have in the industry 4.0 era.

Humanized software design, easy to use programming operation

PAS4000 is the programming software of PSS4000, which supports users to configure and program the PSS4000 automation system (safety function & non-safety function). Simple operation and user-friendly design are its most notable features.

PAS4000 includes a variety of editors (ladder diagram/instruction list/structured text and graphical programs) that comply with EN/IEC61131-3 standards. Users can choose according to their own habits, and they can also mix editors for programming when needed. PAS4000 provides a large number of software function blocks that can be directly called, which greatly reduces the workload of software programming. In addition, the language packs in 8 languages and the online help function make the application of PAS4000 more convenient for users.

The advantages at the application level show that the pattern determines success or failure

From the application level, PSS4000 is a system structure that supports multi-master (main controller) control in a project program, and gets rid of the restrictions on the number of hardware and the number of IO points in PLC applications in the past, unless the project is very strict Response time requirements, otherwise, in theory, users can expand the control requirements infinitely.

Before using PSS4000 to do a project, the main consideration is not how strong the CPU’s processing power is and how wide the processing range is, but more have to think about how many "tasks" the project needs now, and each "task" How to arrange the priority of ”. And this "task" itself is very flexible. It can be static or dynamic; it can be personalized or generic.

This is fully in line with the "modularization" requirements of the control system in the Industry 4.0 era.

In addition, PSS4000 also has products specially developed for certain industries that meet the special requirements of the industry, such as the PSS4000-R series products specifically for the railway industry. It is a complete automation solution with a wide range of applications, flexibility, simplicity and efficiency.
